Sunny Shores Forest Sanctuary is just 2.5 hours from Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), making it surprisingly easy to leave the city behind and arrive in a completely different world. Within 20 minutes, you'll reach the legendary Brule River, one of Wisconsin's most iconic wild rivers, famous for its crystal-clear waters, exceptional trout fishing, kayaking, and miles of untouched Northwoods wilderness. Just as close is Hayward, home of the world-famous American Birkebeiner, North America's largest cross-country ski race and a year-round destination for hiking, mountain biking, paddling, and outdoor adventure.
The sanctuary sits where the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest stretches for more than 1.5 million acres before blending seamlessly into the vast public forests and protected wilderness of northern Wisconsin. Within about an hour, you can stand on the shores of Lake Superior, explore the breathtaking Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, or take a ferry to the charming Madeline Island, where sea caves, sandstone cliffs, pristine beaches, and endless water meet the ancient forests.
Whether you come for quiet, adventure, healing, or simply to remember what it feels like to breathe deeply, you'll find yourself in the heart of one of the most extraordinary natural landscapes in the Midwest: a place where forests, rivers, islands, and the greatest freshwater lake on Earth come together in every direction.

A private Northwoods sanctuary where the forest slows your breathing, the lake quiets your mind, and time begins to feel like your own again.
Hidden on 3.5 private wooded acres in the Wisconsin Northwoods, Sunny Shores offers the privacy of a secluded retreat with the comfort of beautifully restored accommodations. Come for a quiet romantic escape, a family gathering, a weekend with friends, a personal retreat, or simply because you need room to breathe.
Wake beneath the pines. Drink your coffee while mist rises from the lake. Spend the day kayaking, gathering around the fire, wandering through the forest, or doing absolutely nothing at all. As evening settles over the water, warm yourself in the sauna, watch the stars appear between the trees, and remember what it feels like to live without rushing.
This is the place you come to rest, reconnect, and return to yourself.
